Situated at the foot of the Aletsch glacier and the Matterhorn, Brig (Brigue in French), a rail and road junction and capital of the district of the same name, is on the border of the German-speaking part of Switzerland and the Valais. The inhabitants are therefore German-speaking, although they also speak French, Italian and English. Visits focus on the remarkable Stockalper Castle. Charming farmers' market on Saturday mornings, with numerous organic producers. Surrounded by mountains, the town's air is healthy and invigorating. Last but not least, Brig is famous for its thermal spa, with water at around 30 degrees Celsius.
