Practical information : Going out Lausanne
Timetable
Swiss parties can start late, very late, although clubs often offer free entry before midnight to lure you in early. But with the student influence proudly embedded in the city, it's when the bars close, around 2 or 3am, that the clubs really fill up. It's not uncommon for parties to go on until 6am or more depending on the establishment.
Night transport
If you've missed the last bus or metro, or are in no condition to drive home, there are several services that can help you avoid the cost of a cab. The Taxi bus service, for a fare equivalent to that of a public transport ticket, if you're outside the city center, (except for certain conurbations where you'll have to pay a supplement, check the website) offers a collective cab service during the night. You must call the vehicle at least 15 minutes in advance, and go to the nearest bus stop where it will pick you up; tell it your destination, the number of people, and whether you have small children (so that it can provide a suitable seat)
Age restrictions
Unsurprisingly, the age laws for entering a nightclub are no different from what we know. Even if you have been of age for a long time, don't forget to take your identity papers, they might ask you for them at the entrance.
What's very local
To add a little originality to its evenings, Lausanne has long favoured culture and offers varied and high-quality shows, ranging from café-theatres to performances by the Béjart Ballet Lausanne dance company, as well as live music evenings in the cellars and beautiful shows for children.
