Mürren is a car-free town. The only way to reach the village is by public transport, bike or on foot. If you choose the funicular, the ascent along the steep walls and the view of the raging waterfalls are spectacular. Situated on a terrace at an altitude of 1,650 m, slightly above Wengen, Mürren is a charming resort, a peaceful mountain village with panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau... a dream come true. Smaller and more rustic than Wengen, less sunny too, a touch less snobbish, but just as enchanting. The architecture of its houses and the tones of the dialect spoken in the village are typical of the heritage of the Walser, the German-speaking peasant people who conquered the high mountain villages in the Middle Ages. The ski area is the highest in the Obernois and offers 53 km of ski and snowboard runs, toboggan runs and a network of winter hiking trails. Don't miss the 360-degree revolving Piz Gloria restaurant on the Schilthorn. Its futuristic look immediately appealed to the producers of the James Bond film Her Majesty's Secret Service in the late 1960s: the film was a resounding success, and so were the Schilthornbahn and the revolving restaurant. The superb 360-degree view from the summit encompasses the famous Eiger-Mönch-Jungfrau Alpine trio, stretching from Mont Blanc to the Black Forest. With its 200 km of trails, the village is also an ideal starting point for self-guided or themed hikes, such as the Nordface-Trail dedicated to the history of mountaineers on the North Face, or the panoramic flower trail.
