Zinder is the heart of the African continent. At the same time as leaving the country hausa and entering the world of the peoples of the east, the city is a necessity; it is a region at the crossroads of cultures. The city is built on the threshold of a highly used Precambrian granite massif that bursts into balls. Zinder is, by a low-permeable granite basement (300 mm/year) and the water problem is crucial. With a population of over 350 000 inhabitants, Zinder houses old areas dominated by the Sultan's Palace. The mythical story of Zinder begins with a hunter from the Bornou who made a pact with the sacred serpent and said «Zindirr! " with regard to the size of the reptile. The latter is still in the granite chaos and has become one of the major themes of the exterior decorating of houses. Zinder was the capital of Niger for 25 years during the French colony, when the Fort Tanimoune watch tower dominates the town. Zinder is renowned for the beauty of the architectural decor of many maisons style houses.
