Niamey offers the image of a quiet capital where everyone knows: no buildings, apart from three to four towers, a downtown centre that can easily be browsed on foot, between the Grand Hotel, the Petit Marché, the museum and the edges of the river. There are quite well-stocked malls in imported products, markets full of good meat, fish, vegetables and fruits of all kinds, and practically all year with an abundance in the cold season. Côté culture, the Franco-Niger cultural centre holds the first place in the show of the shows: dances, music, concerts, exhibitions and films, national and international artists occur regularly throughout the year. The River Niger gives its stamp to the city and offers beautiful places of horse walks, in canoes, islands to bathe and shaded mango gardens to relax among friends. The main interest of the towns and villages around is their weekly market which drains the rural world rich in traditions and colours.
