The town of Mingyachevir was founded in the late 1940s on the banks of the Kura River. The large lake of the same name is an artificial reservoir, built both to supply the region with hydroelectricity and to irrigate land otherwise unsuitable for cultivation. A few beaches along its shores provide opportunities for rest and refreshment during a lazy break.
