Located 168 km from Baku, the city of Guba is a very pleasant stopover in the north of the country, at the foot of the Caucasus mountains. The city developed from a village called Gudial, which underwent a period of expansion in the 18th century when it became the capital of the Guba khanate. The area is known for its apple orchards, which embalm in the spring and have earned Guba the nickname "apple garden". The city itself is interesting for its ancient architecture, its lively parks and the Jewish city that is its twin across the river. Finally, Guba is a very old and renowned carpet production centre. One of these carpets has found its place in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of New York: the Gollu Chichi, a carpet made in 1712 by a craftsman from Guba.
