This small city, heart of the khanate of Kokand, has managed to preserve its particular charm despite the reconstruction that has taken place in recent years. The old town has been reduced to a small size, but there are still some labyrinthine streets and traditional places of interest to visit. It is still possible to walk around and get lost, enjoying the calm and the atmosphere of another time. The main streets of the new city have already been besieged by new constructions in fake gilding and marble. Wedding halls of the worst taste follow banks decorated with neoclassical colonnades and it is to be feared that this will become even more important in the times to come. Nevertheless, besides the magnificence of its palace, Kokand remains a pleasant city with a charm of yesteryear if you take the time to wander through the streets that made its history, towards the few monuments that have survived. And the Hamza museum is particularly interesting for the discovery of this Uzbekistan which turned to modernity after the Russian conquest. Still resisting to its programmed destruction, Kokand, as well as Ferghana, is a good place to visit in the region.
