Aïe loya ("wait for me" in Mandinka). When the great Almamy Samory Touré stopped over in this village, he ordered some of his troops to "wait there". Today, the town is a remote place at the gateway to Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia, and while its isolation has allowed the surrounding nature to remain relatively unspoiled, neighboring crises have nearly proved fatal to Lola, particularly during the Liberian conflict. Less than an hour from N'Zérékoré, the town is inhabited by the Kono ethnic group. It is the starting point for excursions to the surrounding area: the Nimba Mountains, the Bossou Chimpanzee Center or the Kéoulenta cave.
