Located 135 km from the capital (from the Kaloum peninsula), Kindia developed with the opening of the Conakry-Kankan line in 1905. It was then a prosperous locality, producing tons of bananas that were exported from the capital. Today the train no longer passes through, but Kindia is still at the heart of an agricultural region, a major producer of fruit (especially pineapples) and vegetables, which still earns it the name of "citrus city". The research center of Foulayah as well as various groups of local producers testify, if it were necessary, to the dynamism of the sector in the locality and the surroundings. Heading towards Fouta from Conakry, Kindia is located in the foothills of the foutanian massif. The road, bordered from far and wide by cliffs that cry tears from the sky in the rainy season, is magnificent. The city itself has an unspeakable charm with beautiful places to discover nearby. Spending a few days in Kindia rests the body and the mind from the suffocating animation that reigns in Conakry.
