Located halfway between Kielce and Radom, this small town is certainly the most interesting in the region, as it has a preserved historical center and a castle that has remained absolutely intact. Born in the 13th century, the town owes much to the lord of Sandomierz and great Renaissance personality Mikołaj Szydłowiecki, who invested heavily to expand the town and build a new castle for it. The town is also an important place of memory for the Jews of Poland, who lived there en masse. It was a religious center of Polish Hasidism, a Jewish mystical sect, and before the war, 70% of the inhabitants were Jewish.
