Izalco is "the place of Obsidian houses" in nahuatl language. A good place to climb the volcanoes. Less than 7 km east of Sonsonate and a more pleasant climate (440 m above sea level), this village founded around 1054 houses a beautiful Baroque church; Dolores de Izalco Church on the flanks of the eponymous 1570 date volcano. If you are in the corner around 1 st and 2nd November, don't take a look at the "Carreta Bruja", which is mentioned in one of the many legends of the region, a ghost pacifist that goes on alone, without horse to shoot it: you would get to death soon!
