The San Andrés site in the south-west was the main village of the Zapotitán Valley during the Maya classical period (250-900 Apr. ). It is assumed that in the time of its splendour it was populated with about 12 000 inhabitants. The geographical division between the residences of the governors (Acrópolis) and the shacks of the small people suggests that San Andrés had a religious function. Its most impressive structure is a pyramid of about 15 m high. The 7 structure is the only one that has been truly restored. Over 350 ruins are still scattered in the surrounding area.
