130 km southeast of Tromsø lies Målselv. This is where the Atlantic salmon spawn. They meander up the river through the flat delta lands to this challenging obstacle. At the bottom of the cascade is the pool to which Målselv owes its fame. Thanks to the 450 m high salmon ladder, the liveliest fish reach the waters in the heart of the Dividalen forests. The town's name derives from the Old Norse Malr, meaning bag, in reference to the shape of the Malangen fjord, and lev, meaning river. The surrounding countryside is truly magnificent, so take the time to explore.
