With its 300 inhabitants, Reine is one of Norway's most emblematic hamlets, and has been awarded the title of "most beautiful landscape in Norway". Indeed, the surrounding scenery is grandiose, with mountains sculpted and shaped by Tertiary era glaciers like nowhere else. They rise up around the hamlet as if to protect it. Reine's rorbuer climb the harbor rocks on their stilts, and fish stalls are clearly visible along the shoreline. Other isolated hamlets have only the Reine ferry to connect them to the rest of the region. In high season, classical concerts are held in the small church.
