Hovedøya is the main island of the Oslo fjord. The island was purchased by the municipality of Oslo in 1952 (for SEK 4 million) and is protected by the Heritage Act. With its ruins of a convent built by Cistercian monks from England in the th century. The rest of the island is located in the park. Sea and sun baths on the rocks. Access by boat from Vippetangen.
