Between Ksar el-Barka and Nbeika, the Tamourt en-Na'âj is a depression that fills with water during the rainy season. Nomads stay there during the winter to water their livestock, mainly sheep. When the water begins to recede, the still wet banks allow the nomads to cultivate millet or sorghum, thus encouraging them to settle down. This living space, in the middle of the desert, attracts squirrels, rodents, jackals, hyenas and many birds. It even seems that small crocodiles stay there, taking refuge in the hot season in the last existing pools, the Tamourt en-Na'âj never being completely dry.
