The capital of Brakna, Aleg is both close to the Senegal River, which meanders 70 km to the southwest, and to the desert, whose dunes rise to the north, which has allowed it to become an important road junction serving the southern regions of the country. Located 265 km from Nouakchott, 345 from Kiffa and 65 from Bogué, Aleg is undoubtedly a crossroads. Here you can, without leaving the road of Hope (N3), get food and fuel. In case of financial needs, the BCI and the BMCI (with an ATM) have a branch in the city center. Spending the night in Aleg is also an option. The hotels Yasmine (+222 42 25 25 70), on the N3 road at the northern exit of the city, and Oasis (+222 42 41 37 37), located on a hill to the northeast of the city, are very good. By public transport, reaching the capital will cost you about 600 MRU compared to 100 for Bogué. For the latter destination, it is best to park at the "Aleg crossroads", 6 km southwest of the city, on the N3, where the vehicles providing the link are waiting. Aleg is a transit city where travelers are only passing through. Stigmatized by the assassination of four French tourists by AQIM in December 2007, the small city, where the Mauritanian Regroupment Party (a coalition of organizations advocating the country's independence) was launched in May 1958, is now safe.
