Wé, the largest town in the Loyalty Islands, is home to the headquarters of the Province of the Islands and is composed of three tribes: Luécila, Qanono and Hnaase. It is on this welcoming plain that Fao, a Protestant catechist of Polynesian origin, chose to set up his mission in 1842. The bay of Chateaubriand, which stretches out in front of the sea, is a gigantic and very pleasant white sandy beach. Don't miss the southern road that goes down to Xodra, the panoramas on the wide open sea and the cliffs are among the most beautiful on the island. For something quite exceptional, you can try to explore the Qanono cave. Perceived by all those who have visited it as the most splendid in Lifou, it is very difficult to access and you will have to find a guide within the tribe yourself, before venturing into it... Lifou is also known for the quality of its vanilla.
