It is the second largest commune in New Caledonia in terms of population with more than 31,000 inhabitants. In Kanak language, the city and the river that crosses it are named after the language spoken there ( Nââ Drubéa). The highest point of the commune is Mount Dzumac. The main districts of Dumbéa, Auteuil and Koutio (town hall), adjoin the outlying districts of Nouméa. Then the neighborhoods are fragmented either near the sea (Dumbéa-sur-Mer), or along the territorial road N° 1 towards the river, the golf course and the Fayard Park. Between the two, the expressway coming from Noumea and heading north towards the airport of La Tontouta, leads you to the Médipôle (general hospital opened in 2016) and to Kenu-In, a vast shopping center. Dumbéa is an ideal playground for outdoor enthusiasts. There is also a provincial park and beautiful hikes in the Koghis Mountains.
