60 kilometres from the capital, Blue River Park covers a gigantic area of 22,000 hectares. Created in 1980, this reserve aims to protect the natural heritage, contribute to the education of the population in terms of ecology and provide a field for scientific research. The exhibition at the Maison du parc will inform you about the natural environments in the park. You will find panels and showcases the presentation of specimens of animals and plants. Documentary films are presented there and will complete your visit. A model of the park will give you the opportunity to locate the two valleys (Blue River and White River) and to locate the different hiking trails in the park. The regulations are strict: the speed of vehicles is limited to 40 km/h and it is forbidden to pick plants, bring domestic animals, hunt or fish, use a generator, light a fire and, of course, throw rubbish in. However, camping sites are available and it is possible to stay there by making a prior request. Before going there, make sure it is open, as access is subject to weather conditions. In general, the main part remains passable by passenger car. For the rest, the 4x4 is almost mandatory, with an experienced driver at the wheel. In rainy weather, driving there becomes dangerous!
