Katha is best known as the city of Orwell. The man who wrote 1984, but above all the magnificent Burmese Days, or A Burmese Story, whose story is set in Katha, the city in which he spent several years. A walk in the city allows you to travel back to Orwell's time, on the banks of the Ayeyarwady. You can also visit the old Gentlemen's Club where the British gentlemen of the time used to go. Katha is a stop in time where you will enjoy strolling along the riverside while the villagers take advantage of the sunshine to wash their clothes and bathe. It is also an ideal stopover between Mandalay and Myitkyina, and if you wish to go to Bhamo. Clearly, if you are travelling north of Mandalay, Katha is a must stopover. Numerous horse-drawn carriages and trishaws make it possible to make the common tourist circuit. Katha is not to be visited, it allows you to soak up a special atmosphere.
