Lake Indawgyi is the largest lake in Burma. It is located about 100 km southwest of Myitkyina. It is by crossing the jungle that one reaches this plateau where pineapples, bananas, oranges grow... The inhabitants of the surrounding villages live mainly from fishing. Not far from here are the jade mines and the teak forests, which are exploited with the help of elephants. However, the infrastructure is almost non-existent. The place lends itself to calm and total isolation. The shores of Lake Indawgyi are home to some twenty villages. Essentially a peasant population from the Shan and Kachin ethnic groups. Home to a dozen species of endangered birds, and already listed Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary, the area was recognized as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 2017. Despite fishing, sometimes too intense, the lake's future promises to take into account the conservation of species and sustainable development
