Approximately 20,000 inhabitants. Located at 200 m altitude between the mountains Phou Luang, in the west, and Phou Aphong, in the east (highest point at 1 600 m), Attapeu is nestled at the confluence of the Se Kong and Se Kaman rivers. This green city was still a haven of peace a few years ago. But its proximity to Vietnam, to which it is connected by a new road (which has led to intensive deforestation), has disrupted its tranquility. However, Attapeu attracts very few tourists. On the other hand, the Vietnamese community is very active there. To visit the region, the best period is from October to January.
