Located at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Beng rivers, this village, which is a long artery running parallel to the river, is for many travellers a simple night stopover on the river route between Houay Xay and Luang Prabang. In fact, the porters of the various guesthouses are waiting for passengers at the landing stage. The road connecting with Oudomxay is paved and a power supply line has been installed. In Pak Beng, several guesthouses welcome passengers. The city is inhabited by Hmong or Thai minorities who often sell textiles and local handicrafts. Sites of interest are limited to two temples.
