Located in the heart of a fertile alluvial plain bathed by the Mekong, Vientiane is the capital of Laos, a province and its prefecture. The city now has a little more than 800 000 inhabitants. For the past few years, its economic and tourist growth has led to the development of the road network and accommodation structures.Vientiane is a city with a human size compared to nearby capitals, Bangkok or Hanoi. In fact, it looks more like a large city city and follows the path of modernization at its pace. Let us not forget that Laos came out of its political isolation only recently (in the early 1990 s) and that this economic zone in Asia is changing.Housing construction is shaking its full, and not necessarily consistent: at this rate, the surrounding rice fields will soon only be a vague memory. On the large arteries, the first traffic jams and the number of cycles are constantly increasing.Young girls words their traditional skirts (sin) against Thai, Thai and South Korean jeans. In Vientiane, however, daily life retains undeniable charm. A few days in the capital are the opportunity to discover its markets, museums and temples, all along the inhabitants and making meetings. Here, no apparent stress or delinquency. The best way to discover the city is the bike! Once the Mekong has an important Economic role, today its banks are a place of promenade where the premises are getting refreshed late in the afternoon. Take the time to discover Vientiane, a quiet and charming capital, to the image of the rest of the country.
