Located about thirty kilometers northwest of Kara, this small town is now a very interesting tourist spot. It is known for the Sarakawa memorial, which was built following the air crash of January 24, 1974, in which Gnassingbé Eyadéma escaped unharmed but five people, including three generals, lost their lives. Not far from the town is the wildlife reserve of the same name where zebras, hartebeests, elands and cobs can be observed. Between the reserve, the traditional villages and the Kara River, Sarakawa is worth a few days stop.
