In the heart of the Kabyè Mountains, Pya is located 16 km north of Kara. It is the birthplace of former President Gnassingbé Eyadema. As you drive through this small village, you can see the armed guards guarding the entrance to the road that leads to the President's huge palace. During evaluations, President Faure comes to stay in this family palace, which is closed to the public and villagers. The village is also known for its traditional potteries and forges. It is possible to admire the meticulous work of the craftsmen and women. Many colorful markets are held in and around Pya, including the one in Tcharé, not to be missed.
