In the heart of the mountains of Kabye country, at an altitude of about 400 m, Kara is a welcoming and pleasant town. Under the government of the late Gnassingbé Eyadema, it was always considered "the president's town" because he stayed most of the time a few kilometers away, in his private estate in Pya (his native village). The city does not offer any particular attractions as such, but it is a good place to live and travel. In July and August, Kara lives to the rhythm of the evala and the akpema, the traditional festivals of the region. Kara is a central place in the region and offers many excursions: the country and the Kabyé mountains, Niamtougou, for its craft center (Codhani) and its market, the most important in the region. But also the villages of Défalé below the cliffs, the Tamberma country and its fortified tata, the region of Bassar and Bandjéli and the remains of blast furnaces, Bafilo, its waterfall and its weavers. The city is also central in terms of accommodation and restaurants. It is crossed in its middle by the national road linking Lomé to Dapaong as well as the Kara River, from north to south. At the Kara traffic circle, on the left is the heart of the city, with most hotels and restaurants. To the right is the road to Kétao. There are several places for a simple and nice meal. The cafeterias bridge the gap between the classic restaurants and the kitchens of the mothers
