Preserved in its typical medieval architecture, Rothenburg ob der Tauber is without a doubt one of the most beautiful small towns in the region, or even, according to some, in Germany. It attracts more than 2 million visitors per year! The old town still has many half-timbered houses and stone houses from the Middle Ages. Its ramparts and 42 defensive towers have also survived the centuries completely intact. The facades are perfectly restored, with very vivid colors, which give it a rather smooth small town-museum look. This exceptional state of preservation allows visitors to take a real trip back in time, a one-way ticket to the Middle Ages. Its streets have been used several times as a set for historical films, which have now been somewhat forgotten. But you'll understand as you stroll through the city how attractive it can be to filmmakers! In fact, if you've seen Walt Disney's Pinocchio, you should know that Rothenburg was the inspiration for this classic cartoon.
