This gate overlooking Vire is part of the remains of the ramparts that once encircled the town.
Thanks to its 33-metre height, it dominates the city. Built in the 13th century, this quadrangular gate is one of the remains of the ramparts that surrounded Vire. The main gateway to the city for several centuries, flanked by two towers and a belfry with a bell tower, the Porte Horloge is now used for seasonal exhibitions from July to mid-September. The clock, restored after World War II, illustrates the importance of the city in the late Middle Ages. The weekly market is held at its feet.
