This quiet little town, best known for its baths, lies opposite Tegernsee on the B 318 road. Bad Wiessee owes its title of spa to its two iodine and sulphur springs, discovered in 1909 during oil drilling. This discovery made the town attractive to tourists and spa visitors, an attraction that it continues to enjoy to this day. Later chemical analyses revealed that it was the strongest iodine and sulphur thermal spring in Germany. There are also a number of beaches on the lake shore, which are free to use.
