The Hofgarten offers a pleasant walk through a baroque park in the city centre.
Munich's Hofgarten was created in the early 17th century, at the request of Prince-Elector Maximilian I, on the model of Italian Renaissance gardens, between 1613 and 1617. It was opened to the public in 1780. With its gravel paths, flowerbeds and central pavilion, it's a great place for a stroll. The Hofgarten is surrounded by impressive arcades, with the Deutsches Theatermuseum (German Theater Museum) on the north side and frescoes by the pupils of painter Peter Cornelius on the west side.
