This island, the largest in the archipelago, is 35 km long and 7 km wide. It is home to some 2,300 inhabitants spread over several villages. The most popular stopping point is the one closest to Vilankulo: its sand dune faces Benguerra, but there are others less frequented, as well as two small lakes. Moving up its east coast, the Anantara Bazaruto resort precedes the much more distant Zenguelemo (luxury) communityecolodge. Finally, the Pestana Bazaruto hotel on its northern cape, reopened in 2023 after renovation, is close to the island's long western ridge.
