A neighbor of Bazaruto, Benguerra is very different. Flatter, when you land on its beach, it looks like a salt desert with a few touches of green. But as you go deeper into the island, which measures 11 km by 5.5 KM, you'll find a more lush landscape of tall coconut palms and banana trees. They provide shelter for the throngs of birds that hide there waiting to peck at the breakfast crumbs on your plate. The sand is extremely fine, the crocodiles on the banks of the central lake are harmless (if you stay away from them), and the lodges are as luxurious as in Bazaruto, and even more expensive at the brand-new Kisawa Sanctuary.
