Surrounded by the lagoon on one side and the ocean on the other, Linga-Linga looks like a distant paradise. This small peninsula protrudes closely into the sea. Peaceful, inhabited by a few families of fishermen who have planted coconut trees in their garden, it does not see many tourists. Linga-Linga was almost a Mecca for the whaling industry. In 1911, the Norwegian Johan Bryde set up the first company there, The Mozambique Whaling Company. But this industry declined in 1915 and did not flourish here. Today, Linga-Linga is known for its beautiful basketry and for its heavenly beach which joins that of Massinga.
