DUNES DE DOVELA

Petit Futé's opinion on DUNES DE DOVELA

Vintage plate 2018

If you are on the Inhambane side, this is one of the lodges not to be missed! Built on the second dune ridge overlooking the magnificent beach of Manhame in Inhambane province, south Lagoa Dongane, near the Zavora diving centre and near Inharrime, the Dovela Dunes literally blend into the surrounding primary coastal forest and reveal an exceptional panorama between lush vegetation, dunes and the Indian Ocean. This place, really special, because it offers a change of scenery and well-being, offers three private chalets, with an outdoor shower with a breathtaking view of the sea, as well as four tents equipped on a terrace, with a view of the ocean. The team of the Dunes de Dovela offers you a warm and personalized welcome in this small paradise. The cuisine, for its part, offers a refined blend of flavours between French and Mozambican culinary culture, a delight! But it is the history of the project that is worth a visit: the French owners have been working with the local population since the beginning. The motivation of all and the training efforts made have resulted in an architecture with a particularly impressive level of finish, adopting the curves of the dune landscape in which it is immersed. Warm and relaxing bath on the nearby wild beaches, snorkeling in the turquoise waters, kayaking on the lake, guided walks with discovery of the fauna and flora. Diving enthusiasts can discover the depths of the ocean in Zagora, 12 km away. A must-see dream stopover between Maputo and Tofo. Responsible tourism for an "authentic" Africa!

Message from the owner of DUNES DE DOVELA

The Eco Lodge "Dunes of Dovela" is located at the gates of Inhambane, near Zavora, between Maputo and Vilanculos in Mozambique.

Nestled at the end of a magnificent 12.5 km trail that crosses several Chopé villages and erected on the second ridge of dunes overlooking Manhame beach, the Eco Lodge of the "Dunes of Dovela" offers a truly magical and heavenly environment. The charms of the Indian Ocean on an almost deserted beach, the diversity and uniqueness of the coastal forest, the tranquility of the inland lake of Dongane, the elegance of the architecture, the quality of the finishes, the personalized accompaniment are as many atmospheres that make this place an ideal and privileged place to soak up the energy released by the beauties of the Mozambican coast
No negligible point, this eco-lodge is the result of 4 years of work with strong human and ecological dimensions
Human because the construction was carried out solely with the local population, which involved support and training, which today enables 50 people to master a trade. This same dynamic remains at work in the operation of the lodge. The current staff comes from the surrounding villages and has been trained by the owners.
Ecological because the construction methods used preserve the environment, because the "roundness" of the construction blends naturally into the landscape, because local supply is always preferred, because the non-motorized activities proposed are all environmentally aware. The "Dunes of Dovela" is also member and partner with its neighbours of Zavora of an association (ACCM) aiming at the creation of a protected geographical area in order to conserve and preserve this unique natural environment

Lodging, food and drink
There are two types of accommodation in the "Dunes of Dovela":
- Bungalows with a capacity for two people and a terrace with a sea view. Each bungalow is equipped with a private bathroom and toilet as well as an outdoor shower
- Sea view tents set up in the coastal forest. Each one is mounted on a wooden platform and has a capacity of two seats. Toilets and showers are separate, communal and overlook the sea

Families and small groups can be accommodated

The stay at the "Dunes of Dovela" includes 3 meals per day: breakfast, lunch and dinner (with starters, main courses, desserts and coffee). The cuisine is of very good quality and has learned to combine the flavours of Mozambican products with French know-how

If you've ever dreamed of walking in Africa ...
Hiking trails and viewpoints criss-cross the 80 hectares of land of the "Dunes of Dovela". Discovering the fauna and flora of the site is an important part of the proposed activities. It can be accompanied or carried out in perfect autonomy thanks to Chopé's guides, GPS, maps or games
These trails lead to the surrounding villages where you can meet the local population

Also at "Dovela Dunes":
A deserted beach and a rocky bar forming a natural swimming pool at low tide. In order to take advantage of it, the lodge offers its guests
- Binoculars for humpback whale watching (June to October) and bird watching (year-round)
- Two kayaks for the inland lake
- Masks, snorkels and flippers to explore the rocky barrier in front of Manhame beach
- An extensive nature library
- Lists of birds, trees,..

Diving, fishing and horse riding are possible a few kilometers from the "Dunes of Dovela".

At the restaurant

On the piano, Alexandra and her team make all the flavours of Africa sing on your plate. All with a zest of chic and French class. Unforgettable.
Then maybe you like lobster mayonnaise or flambéed with Tipo tinto, crab pie, shrimp fritters but also fish in foil. Otherwise it's piece of beef, Hilario style chicken, filet mignon, etc. For dessert... Mango fine ice cream, pineapple ice cream mousse, coconut mango crumble on its cream
So bon appétit and to water the whole (in moderation) Alex will know how to advise you!

Moments incroyablement merveilleux
