At the southernmost tip of Mozambique, Ponta do Ouro, the Golden Point, is very popular with South Africans, who only have to cross the border to enjoy this little gem. Kosi Bay is only 13 km away. The atmosphere is not at all Mozambican, as Ponta has long been isolated from the rest of the country by a field of dunes. Nevertheless, Ponta do Ouro remains a pleasant seaside resort, and today it's easy to get to, since the construction of the Maputo-Catembe bridge and a new tarmac road. It's easy and pleasant to reach Ponta from Maputo in around 2 hours. An economical sedan is all you need, no more 4 x 4 as before. Perhaps this new proximity to the capital will bring it closer to its Mozambican origins. Things to do on site: observation, swimming with dolphins and diving are just some of the attractions of this tiny seaside resort. There are a few hotels and resorts, restaurants and a single ATM.Extraordinary nature. The entire coastline south of Maputo is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity. In fact, it has been protected since 2009 by the "Ponta do Ouro Partial Marine Reserve", now part of Maputo National Park since its creation in December 2021.The landscape is characterized by wide, undulating plains that skirt lakes with waters varying from blue to light green. To the east, a succession of plains and vegetation-covered dunes flow into the sea. One of these dunes, at Ponta do Ouro, is 150 m high. Until relatively recent geological times, this entire region was covered by the sea. As the sea retreated, the landscape was transformed. Raw nature, wild beaches and tourist attractions make Ponta do Ouro and the following points a unique place.
