If you are looking for an authentic place, without the influx of visitors, off the radar, where you can enjoy spontaneous contact with the locals, look no further than Pedro Vaz, the perfect place for the experience. It is charming, this northern village with its coconut and palm trees. It must be said that the Portuguese government has something to do with it: associated with that of Cape Verde, it participates in the conservation of this village by giving it grants. The São Pedro church, made of stone, is worth a look. This is where the long-awaited festivities of the patronal feast take place, with music, liters of grogue and fireworks. Unfortunately, many of the inhabitants have left the place for Praia or far away places in search of a better life, and as a result, some of the houses are falling into ruin. Except for the color of the walls, they resemble the unfinished ones that can be found everywhere in Cape Verde, all made of gray cinderblocks. You can visit the green cooperative which is located in the village: it is the building with the pointed roof. An association of sellers offers oil, honey, sugar... In the center, you can see two hexagonal buildings, with strange red roofs with degrees, which mysteriously, nobody knows why they are built like that. If you are planning a tour of the island (which can be done in one day), make a short stop in this kind of very authentic village, just to soak up the local life
