To continue exploring this island of fascinating beauty, why not take a 17 km trek that links three villages. The village of Cruzinha marks the end (or the beginning) of the spectacular (and somewhat difficult) coastal trail that starts in Ponta do Sol and passes through the small hamlets of Garça da Cima and Chã de Igreja, revealing a wilderness to the walkers. This hike on the mountainside will take you between 6 and 7 hours and will offer you an uninterrupted view of the ocean below. Before reaching Cruzinha, you can plan a picnic stop at Formiguinhas. There is a timeless atmosphere in these three villages, completely isolated, cut off from the modern world and animated only by the passage of some hikers. Here life flows peacefully, between daily work that barely provides enough to live on, and modest leisure activities such as watching television or typing cardboard in the shade of a tree. Garça da Cima is nationally known for its Canto da Cagarra dam, which was inaugurated in 2014. With the issue of water being a recurring topic and a real state challenge, one realizes how crucial this construction is, even if sometimes rainwater is not enough to fill it. All along this surprising route, unique landscapes will reveal themselves to you. When you arrive at Cruzinha, there is nothing to do but take a refreshing swim and watch for the boats returning to the port.
