Located 3 km south of Ponta do Sol accessible only by the impressive coastal road, Fontainhas is a small village perched above a deep ribeira essentially agricultural, facing the ocean. Recognizable by its patchwork of colorful houses as if balanced on a ridge, and surrounded by jagged mountains, it has become famous in spite of itself, as it is widely photographed and broadcast on social networks. According to National Geographic, it is one of the most picturesque villages in the world. The inhabitants, who live rather isolated and quiet around a central square, still can't believe it.
