To the west of the Bessin, about ten kilometres north of Trévières, this village is also part of the classified sector of Omaha Beach, along with Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, Colleville-sur-Mer and Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes. It is here, in this small cliff-top town of Vierville, that the first soldiers who fell during the Allied landings of June 6, 1944, were buried. However, this was not the last resting place, as the remains were transported to the nearby cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer. A stele on the roadside marks the location of this former improvised cemetery.
