A nerve center, dedicated to pay tribute to the national hero of the armed struggle, with a municipal band, ...

The city's nerve centre and meeting point, all of Mindelo comes here for an evening or weekend stroll. Built at the end of the 19th century to replace the Dom Luis square, it was renamed Praça Amilcar Cabral at independence, in homage to the national hero of the armed struggle, although the name Praça Nova still sticks. On Sundays, a municipal brass band takes place in the bandstand and livens up the square to the delight of families.
