10 minutes northwest of Santa Maria, this immense desert bay has been disfigured by an ultramodern tourist complex with the construction of a dike in the shape of claws and the establishment of luxury establishments. All this has caused controversy with environmentalists, because Algodoeiro is a protected area where marine turtles come to lay their eggs. It often happens that simple walkers save the babies that no longer find their way to the sea. But don't let that stop you from enjoying the place: the water is a divine turquoise, and the bay curves around its soft dunes. Marked paths will lead you directly to the waves
