Despite being the second largest town in North Iceland, Sauðárkrókur (population 2,645) doesn't see many tourists after all, probably because of its location off the main road. It is a shrimp fishing centre located at the bottom of the Skagafjörður and sheltered by the mountain Tindastóll, which is said to have magical powers. If you are planning to travel to the area, the town offers all the necessary amenities. Theatre is also popular here and street art has its own festival (Saeluvika) every year at the end of April. This event will allow you to interact with the locals in a festive and friendly way.
