Routeno. 1 intermittently reaches the north coast, but mostly runs inland. Varmahlíð, the "hot slope", owes its name to its hot springs, but also to the fact that the slope on which the hamlet is built faces south, and therefore towards the sun and warmth. Varmahlið, with 140 inhabitants, comprises little more than a dozen houses, a hotel, a gas station and an ATM. The campsite is located in the village, and the tourist office is next to the Varmahlíð stop.
