A small fishing port with 880 inhabitants, framed by imposing mountains and famous for its herring. No wonder the village remained isolated until 1990, especially in winter, when it was linked to Eyjafjörður by a 3.4-km tunnel. Today, two further tunnels allow Siglufjörður to be reached in 20 minutes. The Arctic Arc, a magnificent natural setting, is now easily accessible.A short distance from Ólafsfjörður is Hvanndalabjarg, Europe's most imposing cliffs, towering 600 m above the sea. This impressive site is well worth a visit.
