Hrísey (150 inhabitants) is a small, flat, green island in the Eyjafjörður fjord, entirely covered with grass. The island is only 1-2 km wide and stretches for 7 km, tapering to the north. It is an excellent place to watch the midnight sun shave the horizon of the ocean before rising again for another day. It is also an interesting place for birdwatchers, as the many species of birds that nest here have no predators. Today, it is a neat little village with cobblestone streets, pretty gardens and a beautiful view of the mountains on either side of the fjord.
