Iceland's largest cold desert, composed of lava fields and volcanic sand, the largest lava field in the world

The F88 track gradually penetrates Ódáðahraun, Iceland's largest cold desert (4,400 km2) of lava fields and volcanic sand, and the world's largest lava field. Its name means "criminals' lava desert", and legend has it that it was a favored place of refuge for outcasts, although few survived the hostile conditions. Don't miss a stop at the Herdubreidarlindir oasis at the foot of the Herðubreið volcano.
