SKÁLANES
Skálanes, 20 km from Seyðisfjörður, is a 1,250-hectare nature reserve that combines tourism, research and conservation. In summer, guided hikes enable visitors to discover the richness of its biodiversity, a much-appreciated field of study for teachers and students. Reindeer, polar foxes and more than 47 species of birds roam freely here. The walk to the "bird cliff" is particularly popular: 1.5 km round trip from the parking lot of the Skálanes Nature & Heritage Center, the red and white house that welcomes researchers and visitors.
